About the Job
Position Overview The Department of Curriculum and Instruction,
College of Education and Human Development, University of
Minnesota, invites nominations and applications for a Lecturer in
PK-12 Arts Teacher Education. The Arts in Education program
includes MEd Initial Licensure and MEd Professional Studies
programs, an MA degree program, and a PhD track. Tenure-Track
Faculty, Lecturers, Teaching Specialists, Community Faculty, and
Graduate Students teach and/or advise students in the areas of
dance, theatre, and visual and media arts. The successful candidate
in this position will co-lead a vibrant team committed to imagining
equity-minded PK-12 arts education (undergraduate- and
graduate-level coursework and MEd Initial Licensure and
Professional Studies programs). This means that the successful
candidate will possess an explicit commitment to equity, access,
and diversity matters related to markers of difference including,
but not limited to race, social class, gender and gender identity,
language, and sexuality. The faculty and graduate students in the
Arts in Education program are interested in researching and
teaching political and social ideas, issues, and concerns in the
curriculum, contexts, and pedagogies of arts and design education.
As scholars and teachers, we explore these ideas, issues, and
concerns in and across teacher education, curriculum studies, and
arts content areas. The Arts in Education program provides critical
and forward-thinking preparation for those interested in exploring
education broadly conceived, those interested in becoming PK-12
Dance, Theatre, and/or Visual Arts teachers, and those interested
in assuming positions as scholars, researchers, or educational
policy-makers-with a strong philosophical, theoretical,
research-based, and practical understanding of the dynamic
interplay among equity, diversity, access, pedagogy, and
curriculum.
This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track position in a highly
regarded college of a major urban research university. Located in
the culturally diverse cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the
University of Minnesota offers unique opportunities for research
and participation in varied cultural communities. Additional

individual hired will be appointed to a full-time, 9-month,
annually-renewable position as a Lecturer in Arts in Education
during academic year 2024-2025. This position will begin with the
2024-2025 academic year, with a start date of August 26, 2024.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The
successful candidate will be appointed for a 1-year term.
Continuation of this appointment beyond May 25, 2025, is contingent
on satisfactory performance and continuing availability of
resources.
