About the Job
Research Description
A post-doctoral appointment in the field of supernova and transient
astronomy and/or galaxy-cluster strong gravitational lensing at the
University of Minnesota. The postdoctoral scholar will work with
Prof. Patrick Kelly to acquire observations, participate in data
analysis, and prepare papers and proposals.
Projects include i) analysis and interpretation of individual stars
and supernovae highly magnified by foreground cluster lenses using
the Hubble Space Telescope, JWST, and ground-based data, ii)
commissioning and analysis of very early observations of supernovae
and GW follow-up from the Total-Coverage Ultra-fast Response to
Binary-Mergers Observatory (TURBO) led by the PI in New Mexico and
Crete, and iii) preparation for time-domain observations, including
of Type Ia supernovae, with the Nancy Grace Roman Space
Telescope.
Job Duties
35% Analysis of HST and JWST imaging, as well as interpretation and
modeling. Reduction and analysis of ground-based imaging.
20% Development, commissioning, and research using TURBO.
25% Development of transient detection software with the Roman SN
Cosmology group.
10% Communicating Results
Present results in group meetings and at conferences
Attending collaboration meetings, seminars and conferences
Communicating research to the broader community
Writing papers and submitting them for publication in scientific
journals
Presenting results at conferences (both domestic and
international)
10% Communicating with Collaborators
Direct and supervise undergraduate and graduate students
Interpret complex data and advise principal investigator on
research techniques, procedures and results

Qualifications
Required:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. as well as experience with data
analysis.
Preferred:
Experience with interpretation of imaging, as well as gravitational
lensing and/or transient astronomy.
